Why is my discord ping so high

When the game starts my ping is around 100 then it just shoots up to 500-1000, goes down for a few sec and then goes up again. It is making it impossible to play and is very frustrating. Someone told me to contact my isp which I did and they told me they impoved it a little and now my internet is a bit faster but the high ping in dota remains.
